ABC Countdown- Week 1

The kindergartners are doing an ABC Countdown to the end of the year.  Every day is a different letter.  This week started off with Cowboy Day.

Studly cowboy!

He looked so cute walking to the bus.

Daddy was off today to recuperate from the marathon and had lunch with these cute cowboys.

Tuesday was Dance Party day.  Each student could bring in their favorite song to dance to.  Ryker chose Jeremy Camp's "The Way".  He calls is the Nanana Song.  :-)

Wednesday was Experiment Day. He wore his NASA tshirt and they did a science experiment.  I didn't get any pictures though. :-(

Fingerpaint day.  They had to wear old clothes.  Between fingerpainting and pretending to be cheetah at recess his already stained shirt was filthy.

Game Day! He chose this matching game because he said he wouldn't have to explain the rules or how to play to anyone because everyone knows how to do it.  :-)

First Foods

We started giving Riella cereal this week.  This picture sums up her initial thoughts on it...

After trying a few different add-ins and consistencies, we hit a sweet spot tonight.  Although, I think the atmosphere may have contributed to her change in attitude.  I think everything tastes better outside too. :-)

6 Months!

Riella Joan is 6 months old today.  It's hard to believe we've reached the point where she is half way through her first year.  It's bittersweet for sure.  She is just as sweet as ever and learning and growing every day.  She is rolling all over the place now.  She is scooting around while on her back by pushing off the floor with her feet.  It's pretty funny to watch her get her way around the room.

She is still in size 3 diapers except at night when she wears 4s.  She is still wearing 9 month clothes with plenty of 12 month too.  She has kept the same sleep schedule as last month and is still nursing 4-5 times a day.  We'll be starting cereal and other foods very soon though.  She is the queen of blow outs and does its at least 2-3 times a day on average.  Even with the mess and extra laundry, she is such a happy baby and an absolute sweetheart.  We all love her like crazy!

Robert Runs a Marathon!

Race time was early.  The alarm went off even earlier.  I was so anxious for Robert the night before that I tossed and turned.  Cam didn't sleep well either.  He fell out of bed twice.  It was not a restful night for us.  Thankfully, Robert sleeps like the dead and never woke up.  Our hotel was right on the course so he was able to hop a shuttle to the start line.

Ryker woke up while I was getting ready super early and finished up his sign.  He wanted it to have lightning bolts because he says Daddy is faster than lightning.  :-)

I got the boys ready, grabbed Riella out of the pack n play and walked over to the race course. Our hotel was near the 3 mile point where they went on the bridge to cross the river.  We were there as they rounded the corner.  We didn't see Robert but cheered on everyone else for a while before heading back in to feed Riella and pack up.

Packing up a hotel room and getting everything downstairs in one trip with three kids by yourself is quite an adventure.  These two thought the baggage cart was a blast.

We packed up the van and headed to another spot along the course around the 16.5 mile point.  Riella's early morning caught up with her and she was ready for a nap!

These two were hilarious!

We saw Robert right before I took this.  The boys were so excited to finally see him.

We hung out there for a bit before packing up and trying to find a new spot where we might see him.

The next stop was around the 22 mile point.  I had just unpacked everything and loaded the boys in the stroller and gotten Riella in the Moby wrap when some guy made me move the van across the street.  By the time I unloaded everybody and we got there, I'm afraid we missed Robert.  :-(

We stayed for quite a while just to make sure we weren't missing him, but eventually headed back for the van and started driving toward the finish line.  They finish near the Great American Ball Park, so I knew parking would be an issue.  I drove around for quite a while trying to find a place that didn't cost $12.  Eventually I found an empty spot with a meter and took. When I tried to pay I realized it was free.  Score!  We booked it as fast as possible to the finish line but didn't make it in time to see him cross.  I tried calling his phone to see where he was but it had died during the race.  Thankfully, he borrowed someone else's and texted me where to meet him.

We found him resting on the sidewalk.  Cam wanted to leap on him right away.  It was hard to explain that it wasn't a good idea.

We stopped for some pictures on the way back to the van.

I am so proud of Robert!  He set this goal, trained for it with dedication, and achieved it.

It wasn't long before these two passed out.

Kate's mom lives just south of Cincinnati in Kentucky.  We grabbed some lunch and headed there so Robert could shower and stretch his legs for a while.  Kate did some of Riell'as 6 month pictures while we were there too. Bonus!

We headed home in the late afternoon after Robert had a chance to eat, shower, and nap for a bit.  The drive home went great and we were all ready for an early bedtime!

Cincinnati!

Robert is running his first marathon tomorrow in Cincinnati.  We decided to make a family weekend of the occasion.  Mom and Dad drove down and Dave and Kate drove up and we all met at the zoo.  Robert and I hadn't been to this zoo since 2006!  The kids had never been.  Kate has a membership though and was able to get the kids in free and served as our tour guide for the day.  It was great! Robert had to pick up his packet for the race and check in to the hotel, so he just dropped us off and went to do that stuff.  He drove the course and had lunch before meeting up with us.  The zoo is very hilly and he didn't want to walk all day and wear his legs out before the big race tomorrow.  Good thing too, because I can attest to being sore now because of it.  We got there shortly after they opened and stayed until they closed.  It is such an amazing zoo and I'm hoping to go back again this summer at least once.  There is so much to see!
I finished up the shirts for me and the kids to wear for the race late Friday night.

We were up and out on the road a little behind schedule this morning, but not too bad considering the things that popped up. (Riella pooping all over her crib requiring a bath, etc. and the dog refusing to come back in until I, and only I would do apparently, went out and called for him.)

Finally, we arrived.  The boys thought this huge rhino was way too cool.

Waiting in line to see the 5 day old giraffe with Kate.

This isn't the baby (he was too hard to get a picture of), but this one is pretty too.

Next up was a train ride.  I love that members get to ride the train and carousel free.  I wish Indy's zoo did that too.  These boys loved it!

The jungle area had a bunch of activities you could try.  They were all things monkeys either did really well or struggled with.  This rope swinging course was hilarious.  I couldn't believe how many adults tried.  It was great people watching.  Tying shoes without your thumbs was fun too.  I whooped my brother in that activity.  hehe
Cam did so well with this one.  These bamboo shoots moved around and you had to try to climb them.  His physical skills never to cease to amaze me.

The peacocks at this zoo roam free.  This one was eating crackers that people were throwing it.  It was crazy to see it just walking around.  It's tail feathers are so long, you had to watch out when it turned around.  Or, in my case, make sure to duck when it decides to fly off.  It took off for the roof behind me and flew right over my head.  Had I not ducked it would have for sure hit me.  Scared me half to death!

We stood in line for a while and he picked out which animal he wanted.  He really wanted the eagle, but it was gone quick, so he settled for the wolf.  He was still pretty happy about it.

Cam was just happy to ride!
Clearly Ryker was too!  Kate took this one and sent it to me.  Cracked me up!
Just to prove Riella was indeed there.  ;-) Kate took this one.

Robert and I took the boys into the bug exhibit while everyone else waited outside.  This may have been Ryker's favorite part of the day.  He would've spent an hour in there if we'd have let him.

Same spot we stopped at in the morning, but this time with everyone on the way out.  What a fun day!

We all went to dinner at Champps afterwards.  The babies were so good!

Next up was a quick stop at IKEA!

We headed back to the hotel around 8:00.  We thought the kids would fall asleep right away after the busy day we had.  Not so much!  They thought the "apartment" (as Ryker was calling the hotel room) was way too much fun to just fall asleep.  We finally got them calmed down and in bed with a movie.  Robert and I were trying to prepare everything for the next day and discuss plans.  We finally all fell asleep around 10:30.  It was a long day!

Memaw's Mass

Every year Holy Name has a memorial mass in honor of Robert's Memaw.  A sweet friend agreed to let Ryker get on the bus at her house so we could be to the service in time.

It was chilly today, but it was the perfect excuse to pull out these sweet corduroy dress and sweater Riella hadn't worn yet.

After the service, we went for breakfast at Cracker Barrel.  Camden enjoying taking pictures of everyone.

Even Jay came!

The pics he took of Riella were so funny.  He took several through the ring of the toy that hangs on her car seat.  Funny kid!
